Bethany

Established September 4, 1876, Bethany Lutheran was the first church in Kearney County, Nebraska. The Swedish settlers held their first worship services in a simple sod church.

Our current church was built in 1885, and in its early years was known as the “Cathedral on the Prairie.”

There were 36 charter members who founded the church; today, Bethany is home to more than 200 members.

Bethany is a place for everyone. Whether a family has been here for generations, or they just moved to the area, all are welcome.

While tradition runs strong within the congregation and community, new ideas and opportunities are always in the mix at Bethany.
